Zwei freche Weihnachtssongs

Jedes Jahr vor Weihnachten erwei­tere ich mein Christmas-Pop-Archiv, das zur Zeit 644 Titel enthält. In diesem Jahr kamen 46 neue hinzu, die meisten davon werden nie den Radioäther errei­chen. Zwei Songs verdienen eine beson­dere Erwähnung.

Da wäre zum einen Another Christmas Song, von Stephen Colbert aus seinem Mix-Album »A Colbert Christmas – The Greatest Gift of All!«. Stephen Colbert ist ein US-Komödiant, bekannt für seine Auftritte in der »Daily Show« sowie seit 2005 als Moderator der Sendung »The Colbert Report«. In der ersten Sendung prägte er das Wort »Truthiness« für eine Wahrheit, die nicht mit dem Kopf, sondern mit Herz oder Bauch empfunden wird. Truthiness wurde 2006 von der American Dialect Society zum Wort des Jahres gewählt. Ein weiteres beliebtes Colbert-Zitat lautet: »Ich glaube nicht an die Realität. Sie ist ja bekannt für ihre links­li­be­ralen Tendenzen.«

Für sein Weihnachtsalbum hat er hoch­ka­rä­tige Künstler versam­melt (u. a. Feist und Elvis Costello). Der erste Titel, die Jazz-Nummer »Another Christmas Song« (dt.: Noch ein Weihnachtssong), nimmt das Rennen der Musikindustrie nach einem kassen­klin­gelnden (»royalty-earning«) Weihnachtshit auf die Schippe. Colbert gelingt es, seine Abneigung über diese Praxis geschickt und glaub­haft mit der eigenen Hoffnungen zu verknüpfen, dass sein Album tausend­fach bei iTunes down­gel­oaded wird. Ausgesprochen zynisch geht es bei The Hives und Cyndi Lauper zu, die ihr Duet »A Christmas Duel« nennen, also ein Duell. The Hives sind eine schwe­di­sche Rockband, deren Markenzeichen maßge­schnei­derte schwarz­weiße Anzüge sind. Sie haben bisher 4 Alben veröf­fent­licht. Die Sängerin, Songschreiberin und Schauspielerin Cyndie Lauper hatte ihre größte Zeit in den 80er Jahren, die sie auch mit ihrem Kleidungsstil prägte.

»A Christmas Duel« wurde Ende November auf der offi­zi­ellen The-Hives-Homepage zum Download gestellt (hier kann man sie auch komplett hören) und erschien Anfang im Dezember Download-Single. Der Song beschreibt einen fast uner­träg­li­chen Rosenkrieg zwischen einem Paar, das sich gegen­seitig betrügt und verletzt. Doch die Kraft von Weihnachten soll sie noch mal vereinen.
